The Bonn-based Tank & Rast Group with its two service station brands »Serways« and »Tank & Rast« is the leading supplier of gastronomy, retail, hotels, fuel and sanitary facilities along the motorways in Germany. Over 400 service stations throughout Germany enable around 500 million motorway travellers a year to take a pleasant break – usually 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
The website raststaetten.de has one main goal: to provide information. And so today it provides travellers looking for a suitable stopover with helpful and meaningful information about services and offers at the various service stations. An integrated route planner and a location search round off the website's services.
In the course of developing the website, the basic corporate design of the Tank & Rast service stations was also subtly but effectively enhanced. The result is an independent color and form language that can be easily adapted to non-digital media.

USER-ORIENTED CONCEPT & DESIGN
Raststaetten.de is designed as an easy-to-use tool for travellers. The site therefore consists of two main components: the home page, which summarizes the most important information on the basic offerings of all service stations, and the location-specific pages, which provide more detailed and concrete information on each individual service station in particular.
On the location-specific pages, which primarily consist of automatically generated modules, the user receives a brand experience from a single source and at the same time a clear presentation of the relevant information. Depending on what the many different service stations have to offer, partners also have the option of adding individual, location-specific information using optional modules for their service station.
As a result, travellers can now select their stopover on the journey according to their personal needs – because sometimes a small playground can make all the difference.
BASIC ELEMENTS
Starting with the set main design color red, which is architecturally anchored in many elements of the Tank & Rast service stations, the color palette was expanded by two green-blue secondary colors in the course of the relaunch. The resulting complementary contrast creates freshness and liveliness and allows to purposefully direct the attention of the user.
The selected »Montserrat« typeface is characterized above all by its clear yet soft character. Thanks to its small but fine details, it ensures good legibility and a high recognition value.
SECONDARY DESIGN ELEMENT
It is familiar to every motorist: the motorway sign. Based on the well-known sign, a simple and uncomplicated secondary design element was developed, whose clear shape creates structure – for both online and offline applications. In addition, a clever selection of different cut-outs creates a balanced tension ratio in the surface.
BRAND IMPLEMENTATION
The digital world is constantly evolving. For this reason, a modular system was developed for raststaetten.de that allows Tank & Rast to react flexibly to changing requirements in user interface design.
